Chiropractic

What Is Chiropractic?

A unique approach to health. One that deals with the intimate relationship between the central nervous system (CNS) and its communication with the rest of the body. The CNS uses the brain and spinal cord to "speak" and express life to our bodies. Any interference with this transmission of information prevents us from functioning optimally. We call this interference the subluxation. Finding and removing the subluxation is the goal of a chiropractor.

Why Chiropractic?

Right now, your heart is beating. Your lungs, kidneys, liver, brain-everything in your body-is functioning in a coordinated effort thanks to your nervous system. Your nervous system is the master system and controls everything.

Think of the electrical system in your home. When a power surge stresses the system, a circuit breaker trips to prevent the house from burning down. What if this circuit led to the refrigerator? The food inside would start to spoil unless you could get the power turned on before it is too late. The problem is not the refrigerator, but the power to the refrigerator.

The tripped circuit breaker disrupts the refrigerator's power source preventing the refrigerator from operating efficiently. In regard to your body, when interference is present, your nervous system is underpowered.

Diagnostic X-Rays

Why does our office take x-rays?  Well, our first objective is to rule out any major diseases such as cancer or a fracture if you just underwent a traumatic injury such as a fall or an auto accident.  Our second objective is to determine from a chiropractic perspective if subluxations has any effect on your spine.  Subluxations may cause premature wear and tear on your spine-you are literally aging before your time. The progession can be so severe that the joints fused together.

Essential ChiroCare is committed in providing the best care available by utilizing all our diagnostic tools to determine the underlying cause of your problem.  By taking a comprehensive approach to your health (our "Wellness Revolution"), our mission is for every patient to get healthy and stay healthy for a lifetime!

Wellness Revolution

What is Wellness?

The wellness model is based on the premise of promoting, regaining and/or maintaining health and wellness and thereby preventing disease and infirmity. Rather than injecting something to attack the disease, the wellness approach analyzes what is absent. For example, 18th century British sailors (known as "limeys") were commonly stricken with an illness during long voyages that caused their gums to swell, their teeth to fall out and severe fatigue that they could barely walk. It was later discovered these sailors were lacking something essential that caused their condition rather than some "evil" disease. These sailors were deficient in ascorbic acid or Vitamin C mainly found in citrus fruits such as oranges or limes. Hence, they were known as "limeys".

With that in mind, all we can do is help you the essential things your are missing, whether it be proper nerve supply, proper nutrients, proper exercise, strategies to deal with stress, etc. so that you can obtained optimum health.

Auto Accident Care (813) 253-0711

"the seven essential things you need to know after an accident"

1.) What type of doctor should I see following an accident?

If you have been seriously hurt, you should see an emergency room physician first. If you feel that your injuries do not require immediate attention, you should see a physician that is experienced in dealing with auto related injuries. Many choose to see chiropractic physicians due to their expertise in musculoskeletal related problems.

*Essential ChiroCare has experienced chiropractic physicians that can effectively treat and document your injuries.

2.) Who pays for my medical bills?

The Florida law requires all drivers to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP). This part of your insurance policy covers you in the event that you sustain injuries as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Because Florida is considered a "No Fault" state, your insurance company covers your medical bills regardless of fault.

*Essential ChiroCare has experienced staff members that can handle your claims so you can focus on getting well.

3.) Can I choose my own doctor?

You may choose to go to any chiropractic physician, medical physician or specialist without referral. Your auto insurance company will cover your medical bills regardless of your choice of physicians.

*Essential ChiroCare has immediate appointments available so you don't have to wait to get better.

4.) Should I hire an attorney?

The decision to hire an attorney is an important process that needs careful consideration. It is not a requirement for you to retain an attorney in order for you to receive treatment. Many patients decide to retain an attorney when their injuries are considered permanent, have lost wages or earning capacity, will incur future medical expenses, have significant pain/suffering and other "non-economic losses", etc.

*Essential ChiroCare will provide the appropriate medical records, narratives and documentation to your attorney upon request. If you need help finding an attorney, we will assist you in finding an experienced and reputable attorney that is capable of handling your case.

5.) Should I talk to the other driver's insurance company?

You are not required to give an oral and/or recorded statements to the other party's insurance company. You should never do so if you have retained an attorney to represent you.

6.) How long does it take to heal from my injuries?

This all depends on the type of injury you sustained from your accident. The most common type of injury is a soft tissue injury. Soft tissues are comprised of muscles, tendons, ligaments, discs and nerves. Because the first 72 hours after an injury are crucial for treatment, seeking immediate treatment for your injuries will enhance your chances of recovery.

7.) Should go see a chiropractic physician or a medical doctor?

Again, if you have a medical emergency, you should see an emergency room physician. However, if your condition is not an emergency, chiropractic physicians are often the first choice for the treatment and management of auto injuries because the focus of their practices are on musculoskeletal conditions. Also, most medical offices are not equipped as physical medicine centers to treat auto injuries.

*Essential ChiroCare is fully equipped to care for your auto injuries. We also work closely with other physicians so that you can get the proper care.

Massage

Massage is a form of soft tissue manipulation and has been in existence for centuries in many cultures. Soft tissues comprises of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and blood vessels. It help us move, breathe and stand upright among the many other important functions which is all coordinated by our master system-the nervous system . Often times these soft tissues can become fatigued, tight or injured from stress (emotional, physical and biochemical), poor posture, work conditions, sports activities or an auto accident. When these soft tissues become tight, weak and/or injured then it could result in pain, restricted range of motion, altered biomechanics, scar tissue and constriced blood flow. Our licensed massage therapists, Jessica, Julia and Karen, employed a variety of massage techniques listed below to address these issues.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscles with the purpose of relieving tension and pain. The massage therapist uses slow and deep strokes applied across the grain of the muscle and connective tissues.

Trigger Point Therapy

What is a trigger point? The term was developed by Dr. Janet Travell, M.D. to describe a hyperirritable area in a muscle that is felt as a hard nodule. Trigger points can cause referred pain to other areas of the body. The massage therapist locates these areas by palpation and applies the correct amount of pressure with the intent to eliminate the trigger points.

Myofascial Release

The term myofascial means muscle (myo-) and connective tissue (fascia). Fascia is a continuous and thin tissue that covers every muscle and fiber and organ in the body-think of the thin and clear covering raw chicken. The muscles and surrounding fascia can become short and tight causing pain. Therefore, the therapist locates areas of tension and stretches muscle and fascia until it has become relaxed.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage involves using the hands, elbows and forearms on the superficial muscles with the intent to relax muscles and improve circulation. It is also the most popular in the United States. The technique involves four strokes: petrissage (kneading), effleurage (gliding), tapotement (tapping), and friction (cross fiber).

Motion

One of the best things about Pilates is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people who at various stages of physical rehabilitation. This class is designed for all levels utilizing the fit ball, resistant bands, and foam roller. These props provide gentle to moderate resistance in the exercises. They also give the body feedback as to where it is in space and which muscles are being used.

Physical Therapy

Our Tampa office incorporates various physical therapy modalities to assist you in your recovery. Modalities such as electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) and ultrasound have been utilized by professions specializing in rehabilitation for many years. EMS, also known as interferential, provides a painless electrical current with the purpose to reduce pain and muscle spasms. The sensation one often describes is a tingling feeling with relief after the treatment. Ultrasound provides deep heat to promote tissue healing, reduce edema (swelling), soften scar tissue, reduce pain and decrease muscle spasms.

Weight Management

At Essential ChiroCare, we hear a common story.  "I've tried everything! I can't seem to find a program that will help me lose weight for a lifetime."

When it comes to weight management, there are many fads that promise to help you lose weight.  Often times, these programs fail to help you sustain the progress that you have achieved.  Even worse, some these programs are actually detrimental to your health!  There are medical clinics that prescribe a nutrient deficient 500 calorie diet, give you stimulants to suppress your appetite and inject you with vitamins claiming it helps you lose weight.  It is clear to see not only the unsustainable nature of this program, but also the dangers this may impose over a prolonged period of time.  Furthermore, the cost for this program is often not sustainable.

Essential ChiorCare takes great pride in creating individualized programs to help you succeed with your health goals.  We realize that every person has their own unique challenges to maintaining a healthy weight.  We also realize that this is a life's journey.  So we incorporate strategies that will keep you fit for a lifetime!

Let us help you regain your healthy weight so you can enjoy life to its fullest!
